Vapour Canopy Theory . . .

Supporters of creation have produced a theory known as the Vapour Canopy Theory according to which the earth was fully enclosed in a 'bubble' of water vapour up to the time of Noah and the Flood (Genesis 1:7 refers to the 'waters above the firmament'). Scientific calculations have demonstrated that such a concept would have been physically possible.

The protection offered by the vapour canopy would have been such that the earth would have enjoyed a stable warm, humid, subtropical climate instead of the extremes known today. Also the earth would have been protected from much of the sun's ultraviolet radiation, causing levels of radioactivity in the environment to be much lower than they are today (see radioactive dating).
